My first day running before work: I woke up at 6am, but as I had a home office day, decided to stay in bed until almost 7am. I couldn’t hear any rain, so the plan was still on: start running before going to work three times a week. There was no excuse. Perhaps, this would make more sense if I go back couple of days, when I decided to make my month 10 a startOctober.
I joined a healthy habits session at work, about wellbeing, balance between work and private life, with some tips to increase focus and get more things done in a shorter time and with less stress. It seems like ” the dream”, right? Oh well, this is just a short summary, straight to the point, but no miracle happened in this session. I got some tips though. And among them is that working out in the morning, even if it is for 20 minutes only, can benefit your whole body in terms of concentration and energy for up to 10 hours. “Not bad”, I thought. So me and a colleague made a “pact” to give it a try.
So going back to my first experience. Shoes and jacket on, quick bowl of cereal with milk on the couch, I got Cia – my puppy – and stepped out of the house. Before you wonder, Cia is a puppy, a small schnauzer, and I know they can’t handle too much walk. But I am not a big runner, actually while I run, Cia can delightfully walk by my side… not sure if this is positive, I mean, regarding my speed. But continuing… I decided to make one round around the small canal in Veghel, where I live.
In the beginning was all good. We stopped couple of times for Cia and kept running. When couple of meters from my house, I kicked the sidewalk – at least is what I think – and fell like a boiled potato, hands all the way in front, belly on the ground, like a volleyball move but then without the ball Cia continued walking, ignoring the whole thing. But the neighbour, who was walking with his dog, he stopped and started staring at me.
Without my glasses, I could not see if he was laughing, worried or just appreciating such a scene in the morning. I said ” goed, goed”, but he didn’t move. I finally stood up as nothing had happened, as this was my Wednesdays morning practice. He was still staring. I made a sign with my hand that “yes, show is over”, so he finally left. I then put myself together and ran the last minute to the gate of my house.
Oh well, definitely more awake after the run!
This little cute below is Cia.
